Opening Night of new season

Posted by goldmanacus on February 1, 2010 at 10:00 PM

The night was cool but the action inside the Merrick Fencing Club was fast, toasty and inviting.

Opening night greeted some new members. We were very happy to meet Chris with his elegant, youthful style. We were sorry Brenda could not join us for opening night. Zen is busy bungee jumping off a wooden bridge in the rain forests of New Zealand or I am sure he would have been there. Have not heard from some of you and we hope you can make it next week.

Shari’s defense was notable against Rich while he continued his dominance with powerful, fast movements. Brian dazzled us with his precision and bold leg movement while displaying a keen fashion sense with some very snazzy fencing footwear. Suzie’s parry is unmatched and is working on perfecting her lunge.  Don kept the class moving with his wit and undying charm.

There was some excellent instruction from our resident coach and mentor Enid who announced she will be receiving not one but two bionic knees after the summer.

Orders are being taken for this season's limited edition custom hoodie sweatshirt with the new AVANT-GARDE Fencing Patch which will be embroidered. It is a high quality product which will be the envy of all those in the fencing community as well as the fashion industry.  It’s of a much higher quality than last year's zipper sweat shirt. Sweatshirt without Custom Avant-Garde patche is $30.00. For $20 you can secure the limited edition Avant-Garde fencing Club patch.

           See you next week!

-We have had a few milestones here at the Merrick Fencing Club today 2/22.
-We were graced with Taylor ?our newest youngest member. She moved like a gazelle -like it was second nature --scoring a few points for a first time go around,
-We secured a Doctor to speak at the beginning of the class this evening. I was proud to introduce Dr, Ryan Braverman -516 279 6330 - who spoke about the type of injuries he treats. He stayed to answer questions and both Don and Shari seem quite interested and spent some quality time with the good doctor.
-Xen had planned to attend but he is still in the process of removing the Koloa Bear which will not let go of him. I think he scared the poor little guy when he bungee jumped off that wooden bridge in the depth of the rain forest with him.
-Space was perfect in temperature and light.
-There was some vigorous, serious back and forth movement this evening. I think everyone is more ambitious after seeing the ice dancing at the Olympics.
-The Don Shuffle and the Brian Stomp were musical with Susie?s parry and Chris?s bounce and stab. Brenda and Shari danced with Rich always fast and skillful on top.
-We miss Suzanne, Nick, MJ, Betty, Roger and Lauren...
